Marlea is a certified elementary school teacher as well as art hobbyist. In 2012 she received
her master's degree from Pace University in elementary education. Later, in 2016, she extended her
certificate to include special education through SUNY New Paltz. She has taught with many art programs in the
past and is incredibly excited to be running her own, The Artist's Corner.
Teaching art was Marlea's first introduction to teaching and it holds a special place in her heart. Her favorite artists are Banksy and Norman Rockwell. She loves Banksy for his dedication to bringing awareness to global issues through art. As a kid, she first saw Norman Rockwell's images on the walls of her pediatricians office. She grew up loving his crisp, clean images and soon learned how relatable it was to reach for the idealized American dream.
It has been an adventure, but Marlea is very proud to have combined her personal experience with art and education to provide an environment where artists of all ages can create and succeed!

Savannah is Marlea's niece and has been subject to her crazy schemes her entire life. Most recently, she got involved in The Artist's Corner when it was just an idea. She is now and integral part of this cog by helping create unique projects and volunteering her time at community events.
Savannah has always been surrounded by art and comes from a long line of artists. She currently works for Taconic Innovations with special needs individuals on fine motor skills, often through different creative and artistic activities. You can also find her at the Dreaming Goddess in Arlington.
Savannah's favorite artists are Vincent Van Gogh and Josephine Wall. She finds Van Gogh's art to be
full of whimsy and to be naturally organic. She also finds his life story to be captivating. As for Wall, she likes that
every time you look at her art, you see something new.
Savannah is very excited to be working in the classroom and to continue taking this program as far as
it will go!

My name is Shayleen. Everyone calls me Shay.
I have loved drawing for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, it was joyful and fun. When I was a teenager, it was a way for me to escape into my own world, to explore my way of expression and connect with my imagination. I focused exclusively on art electives in high school, spending most of my free class periods in the art room just lost in sketching, painting, and drawing. My favorite medium has always been pencil, but I also love pastels.
My favorite artists are Leonardo Di Vinci and Vincent Van Gogh. Di Vinci’s realism and shading blow my mind and inspire me. Van Gogh’s Starry Night is my very favorite piece of artwork for it’s movement and stylized approach to subject and landscape.
I graduated from DCC with an associates degree in Commercial Art and Advertising, and my art portfolio was accepted by the SUNY Fine Art program in preparation to complete a bachelors degree in Fine Art. Life got in the way and that was ultimately not to be. I don‘t claim to be a professional artist. I’m just doing what I love, what feeds me. I want to share what I do know, the techniques that have stayed with me, with anyone who wants to explore and express their imagination too.
We are all Artists.
